Good, then help pass on this precious gift! The 11th Annual Family Literacy Day, coming up on Saturday, April 9 from 1-4pm, is a great opportunity to experience the power (and fun!) of literacy. You can register online for this CS Convo eligible event.
Belmont’s First Annual Literacy Week kicks off next Monday, April 4, with two PPG Convos featuring children’s author Faye Gibbons. "Inspiring Students to be Readers and Writers through Children’s Literature" is at 10am in Inman 210 and "The Importance of Reading to Children" is at 2pm in the Vince Gill Room. Wednesday night at 7:30pm head to Massey 210 for spoken word performance by “B the Word” Student Poets. On Thursday, April 7, poet and former head of the NEA Dana Gioia will present a PPG Convo at 2pm in the library’s Multimedia Hall and an AL convo on “Reading and Civic Engagement” at 8pm in the Belmont Heights Baptist Church Sanctuary. Two C&A Convos are slated for Friday, 4/8, Dana Gioia’s Poetry Reading at 10am in the Library’s Multimedia Hall and our very own National Champion Speech and Debate Team's Literary Showcase from 5-7pm in Massey 103. Memory Lane, digitized!
Belmont University Special Collections has partnered with Harpeth Hall to create a digital archives collection, housed within Internet Archive.
The Belmont/Harpeth Hall collection includes such items as yearbooks (annuals), catalogs, pictures, curriculum guides, and faculty/student rosters from Belmont College for Young Women, Ward’s Seminary for Young Ladies, Ward-Belmont School and Harpeth Hall. Belmont University contributed catalogs, annuals and school magazines from Ward-Belmont, covering the years 1913-1951.
Visit our collection and stay to peruse the Internet Archive! Internet Archive is an awesome source for audio, text, moving images and is also the home to one of Lila's favorite toys, the Wayback Machine, 150 billion web pages archived from 1996 to a few months ago.
