Get to know Bunch Library’s newest addition, Chuck Hodgin. Chuck is serving as Assistant Professor of Systems and Collection Management, a new position, and has recently moved to Nashville with his wife of 6 years and their 2 children, ages 2 and 6 months.
Where are you from?
I am from the twin state area. I was born in Meridian Mississippi, but I call Mobile, Alabama home. I went to the University of Mobile and received a BA in Humanities, and then went on to graduate school at the University of Mississippi where I worked towards an MA in Philosophy. I have my MLIS from Drexel University. For the last three years I held the position of Reference Librarian at the University of Mobile.
What excites you about being a new member of the Belmont community?
Belmont is growing tremendously and that means there are a lot of opportunities for growth and expansion in the library. It’s just very exciting to be part of this kind of environment where there is opportunity to be creative, help the library grow and expand, and usher in new technologies that will help lead Belmont’s library into the future. I have a lot to offer, and I look forward to being a part of the library team.
What are your interests and hobbies?
First and foremost, I love spending time with my wife and two children. Being a dad is really important to me. I am a big fan of anime and manga and I am also a sports fan. In particular, I love soccer and I support Liverpool Football Club.
What are a few fun facts that students might want to know about you?
I have been to multiple WWE wrestling shows. I have never had a Facebook page. I dyed my hair blue in college. To this day, the opening sequence from the movie The Lion King still gives me the chills.
What new ideas do you have for library collections and technology?
In the short term, I will be working to make library systems more efficient by streamlining processes and workflow, which will help the library staff but students will see the benefits as well. These behind the scenes projects will make the technologies more user friendly, and provide opportunities for students to utilize and interact with new technologies. In the long term, I hope to head up a digitization project and create a university repository for digitized theses, archival materials, old documents, etc.
Welcome to Belmont, Chuck!
